coming off anon mode for this one.. oh god haha, i have no idea if my phone data will even survive after the chasm update but im really looking forward to the 3.0 update (hopefully Sumeru) 🥲 perchance do you mind if I ask what you use to play Genshin? i've thought about saving up for a PC or a windows laptop but have no idea where to start looking!
feel free to dm me or answer as a thread whichever you prefer! id feel kinda guilty if i turned an anon ask thread into a convo without the dm option haha. im a bit socially anxious and awkward but if you want a new friend to play and talk about genshin, themis, and other games feel free to reach out as well!! you seem like a really nice person truly 👉🏻👈🏻🥺 im the Canadian anon btw. (I actually submitted an ask on non anon mode before but lmao i was bold at that moment but ig this is also another bold move im gonna make 😅)
hello Canadian not-so-anon anymore! I use a inspiron 15 3000something... it's not a gaming laptop by any means, as it's primary purpose is for use in studies :') my lenovo ideapad 15 actually ran genshin better than this one, but its hardware... questionable. i'll definitely keep your offer in mind in the future when i have more time - tysm for offering!! and you seem like a super nice person too ❤️❤️

I am writing this review and rating it only 3 stars, but I continue to love Parallels. I actually hope that others will buy Parallels 9 and then call, write, and chat with the support team to complain about the loss of Parallels Mobile and its replacement with a more expensive, but more functional version called Parallels Access. Hopefully, people reaching out and complaining will push them to re-visit their idea.

So, here's my review of the actual software.
Parallels makes upgrading easy. I just popped in the Desktop 9 CD, then realized that they will let me download it. I prefer to download as the CD will never survive in my house. If I ever needed to re-install, then I will have to have it. So, I downloaded the software and hit install. It found my Parallels 8 and replaced it. All of my OS's are still there.
Now my Dropbox and Google drive docs are available on the Windows machine. This may seem like nothing, but I can access my Photo Stream, my iCloud Docs (which I don't use), and my Google Drive docs straight from my Windows machine without having to create shares and links or by installing and mirroring the same data on the Windows machine. This is very nice and makes it much easier for me to update a file and know it will be pushed to Google Drive or Dropbox.
The last time I upgraded my Mac, I had an issue because Parallels stopped working. Apparently, Parallels Desktop 7 worked for Lion (10.7), but not Mountain Lion (10.8). That was a frustration that I wanted to avoid. When Mavericks (10.9) comes out, I can upgrade my laptop without worrying that all of my Parallels Operating Systems will shut down. I use the windows side for some of the work that I do and that was frustrating to realize that I couldn't access Windows until I upgraded Parallels. In their defense, they notated this on their website and had sent emails that I must have missed. I was pleased that the issue was documented and easy to see if I searched.

Parallels has replaced Parallels Mobile with Parallels Access as of this version. First off, what are these things, you might ask. These are Apps that you run on your iPhone/iPad which allows you to takeover your remote machine. I can sit at the coffee shop and remember I needed to hit send on an email. I grab my phone, open the Parallels Mobile app, and it connects to my laptop at home, shows me the desktop, and lets me do what I need to do. You don't have to setup your router or anything. Just have Parallels running and you're good to go. * The downside, Parallels Mobile worked for iPhone and iPad. This meant that if I just had my phone, I was still good. Parallels Mobile was introduced around version 7 and now it's being phased out. It's being phased out in favor of Parallels Access, which does the same thing, but costs $79.99/yr and doesn't currently work on the iPhone. When you connect with Parallels Access, the computer you takeover gets all funky as Parallels us tweaking the desktop resolution so that it can show you one Mac/Windows application at a time. * The upside, Parallels Access is pretty sweet. You can takeover just one Mac/Windows Application at a time. You don't have to re-size the application to perfectly fit in the screen. They have taken the iPad finger strokes and made them work when you are taking over a remote computer. It's pretty amazing and has allowed me to get more done faster.
Parallels Access might be worth $20/yr to me, but not $79.99. It's worth even less to me because I don't have a choice. Parallels Mobile is End of Purchase. http://www.parallels.com/support/desktop-virtualization/mobile/ This means that you can't get it anymore and those of us that have been with them for years can't use it if we want to upgrade. If the next Mac upgrade to Mavericks works the same, then once I upgrade my Mac, I will have to upgrade Parallels and lose access to Parallels Mobile. (This is what I was talking about on the first paragraph. Please phone, chat, Skype, and email support. Please push for Parallels Mobile to come back or Parallels Access to be reasonably priced.)
I love Parallels and they have always come out with something new and some reason that it's worth it to me to upgrade. This is the first time I wouldn't want to give 5 stars. I still love them and want to stick with them. If you are choosing between Parallels and Fusion, I'd still say to go with Parallels. We just need them to get a little less cocky and be more open with us the consumers.

The Last (for now) Days of Being a Student
29 Oct 2018
Honestly though, my last semester in uni wasn't very studious. I had one course called Sixteenth Century English Literature in which the professor basically mocked all forms of religion and pointed out all the sexy details in Shakespeare's sonnets. For the final exam, which was three essays long, I wrote one very indignant essay about why I needed more women in literature and how all of the supposedly feminist writers in the sixteenth century were full of *$#% (but in a literary chic way). I got an A.
To top off the not-student like behavior, I TA-ed for my advisor's Freshmen English class. I survived a semester before and couldn't be prouder of myself for the job I was doing. It was mostly writing emails to students, making photocopies now and then, and sending reminders to the professor. The most excruciating part probably was correcting their essays' grammar and spelling. My friend said "Why bother? They probably won't read them," to which I retorted "CUZ I LIKE BEING RIGHT!" On the anonymous end-of-the-term survey, I've received many confessions of love to which I awww-ed and laughed. But most of them genuinely thanked me for the effort I put into emailing them, asking them questions, and drumroll correcting their grammar.
But why bother reading about my boring school life when you can read about what I have been doing not in school! Here is what went down in my life from April - June 2018.
The Diary of Anne Frank
The best way to cure jet lag is to go straight into tech week the following week. I have experienced many ailments from traveling and found jet lag from Europe to Asia is quite the worst. Fortunately, I signed myself up to run the lights for the Butterfly Effect Theatre's production of The Diary of Anne Frank. This was our second run but this play just doesn't get old. Fun fact about this play: this show's original Broadway cast had young Natalie Portman playing Anne. The Diary has been adapted into many plays but this version doesn't deify Anne into a hero figure but truthfully illustrates the inner drama of a teenage girl and the struggles of seven people living in a cramped up space. Honest to God, I cry almost every curtain call.
During the production, I read many young people don't believe that the Holocaust happened—this information killed me a little. It's absurd that someone wouldn't believe in a historical event with monuments and memorial sites all over the world with many primary sources and survivors who are still alive to tell their stories. Don't even get me started on how good some great works of fiction are based on WWII, like The Reader, Everything is Illuminated, and The Fiddler on the Roof… Also, there was a group of high school students in Taiwan that dressed up as Nazi soldiers and marched around the school for an event. Ignorance is not bliss, naïve is not cute—history is there for us to reflect and learn. I somehow took these news very personally, maybe because I grew up listening to the same Bible stories as the Jews, maybe because I cannot stand uneducated people, probably a combination of both.
A representative from Israeli cultural office was invited to open the show (we had free falafels, hummus, and pita during the last run of the show but not this time, insert whimpering). The weekend swooshed by. I was just thankful I could be a part of a show that spoke a story that some started to neglect.
That was the last time I worked with this theatre company because 1. they did have one last show August but I was helping another show the exact same time 2. rent issues with the theatre space 3. the artistic director got a new job in Vienna. He moved early September and he basically sold everything from costumes to lighting equipments. It was a hectic process to watch a theatre company that I truly felt at home turn into a goodbye yard sale. I learned a lot about running low budget shows, programming with too-old consoles, but most of all I made connections with people I know I will meet again in this tiny theatre world.
Fashion Revolution Taipei
April was a month where I went crazy juggling all about. I collaborated with Totes & Tees, a small social enterprise that focuses on ethical and zero-waste fashion. I have been following this small company for a while through a mutual friend and was really interested in what they did. The owner was also going to be one of the hosts for Fashion Revolution 2018 in Taipei. The idea was to have a runway showcasing up-cycled items handmade by many different designers. I was to crochet a beanie from a no-longer-used piece of fabric. Sadly, I couldn't participate on the actual day because I went on a family trip to…
Rome & Paris
To say this was a family trip would be a misleading statement. My parents were there to lead the seminars they have been running for 10+ years. As I mentioned in Update 3.0, their heart is for the Chinese speaking people all over the world. The Asians basically took over a whole hotel on the outskirts of Rome to host Fathers' School and Mothers' School simultaneously. This meant, there needed to be a baby sitting club. Slowly raise your hands if you're a pastor kid you basically did everything that was assumed of you! (Did I volunteer? Did I chose to be their child? We'll never know) No, I'm not being bitter, I just simply love poking fun at my stereotype. Besides, I was asked nicely to participate in taking care of the children—a member from the Taiwan side of the team had activities prepared for them, I just had to support. I said "WHY NOT? I JUST DID THIS A MONTH AGO!"
But, this crowd was tough. It wasn't like calming down super rowdy Hungarian-Romani children nor was it like being dragged around by crazy bubbly Filipino kids. These were well-educated, cellphone-hogging Chinese-looking kids who preferred classily sitting on chairs, not the floor, chattering away in Italian. Of course, they were all embedded in their Chinese-ness from their parents, so they still understood most of what we were trying to do. However, whenever the head teacher asked them to do something extremely "Asian", my TCK heart ached, feeling all the "well, they are NOT going to relate to that at all…."
Because the seminar lasted three out of the five days we were at Rome, we only had enough time to look around the Vatican and trot around to sneak peek here and there. One of the free days was taken over by a tour set up by the local church. They took us around historical sites that were related to the early underground churches and Apostle Paul. We visited way too many cathedrals that all of them started to look the same. The most memorable place was the underground tunnels where the early Christians escaped to and hid from the Romans. Going to a Christian school, we would always play Underground Church when we had class sleepovers—even though it was just a game, the danger felt extremely real. But as I stood in the tunnel, I could actually really imagine how real their fear must have been. I was in awe of the way these early Christians kept their faith even in the dark, cold underground.
After eating one too many cones of gelato and faking one too many Italian conversations in Spanish, we arrived in Paris. They were only going to host Fathers' School so umma and I had plenty of free time. However, being the only linguistically competent person in the group (but honestly, my French is basically nonexistent), I had to take everyone around the city. I was annoyed at having no time to myself and just my parents but thankfully, appa had three days free and the crowd let us be for two of those days.
Paris' reputation really proceeds itself, it's a bit dirty, there are more rude strangers than nice people, and they really hate you if you ask "parlez-vous anglais?". Despite all the negative stereotypes, I took my little tour group all around the places I've researched in advance. I was also allowed to go off on my own when I wore them all out by 5 p.m. I'm proud to say I've actually hit all the touristy places I wanted to visit with and without the group. We even visited Versailles kudos to the fact umma is so internet-savvy that she actually researched. She was very intent on visiting a few places like Château de Versailles, the top of the Eiffel, and the Louvre—her excuse always being "I'm never coming here ever again!"
After two-ish weeks of venturing around Western Europe, we emptied out the 99 cents cheese blocks at the local Carrefour market, squished it into our luggage, and sat on a long plane ride. Umma commented that I seem to be the "vacation type", she couldn't understand how I could still be so chipper being gone from home so long. Although her observations were accurate, I wouldn't have wanted to stay longer unless I started taking French classes or something—the language barrier was devastating.
Sharon McGill Memorial Service
My dorm mother passed away from cancer last fall. Her favorite drink at Starbucks, toffee nut latte, just came round again. I received the news via McGill dormie Facebook group while I scrolled through my phone during class, bad idea. My commute back home that day seemed five times longer than usual. Halfway through my walk home from the bus stop, I ran into umma. She asked if I wanted to go to Costco with them, then asked why I don't look so well. I honestly had no clue how to break the news. Appa's car rolled around to pick us up for Costco, I said Sharon died, we cried a little and had a moment of silence. I always thought about how umma and Sharon, appa and Terry are the same age. My mums and dads. They are some of the most important people of my life and one of them was gone.
I'd like to think I had enough time to process through this situation. Then I'd realize that not all valleys in life are empty holes. You don't just get over it. You live with their memories. Some days will pain you more than others but they're there to remind you that you are that much alive. You can still feel. As cheesy as I'm starting to sound, this is something I have been needing to remind myself lately.
After what seemed like too long, the day of Sharon's memorial service came. I hopped on the familiar bus from Taipei to Taichung. Visiting high school wasn't a big deal but I've never thought I'd visit because my dorm mum passed away. The auditorium was filled. Dorm kids had priority seats. Terry gave a bear hug to everyone who made it. The whole thing began with Terry mumbling to the mic "Alright, let's get this over with," to which I definitely chuckled. I didn't even bother holding back my laughter or tears or both as they came and went throughout the service. At the end, I could just feel this was a closure that everyone who knew Sharon deserved. I cannot describe what kid of feeling that was. The feeling of home? Feeling of clear certainty. Maybe everyone's love for Sharon somehow became a tangible atmosphere. I must say it almost felt like a wedding.
During the reception, there was a photo time where Terry was huddled around 30-something out of 120-something of his dorm children. Later on he said that was the highlight of his day. He also said no one was allowed to leave the dorms before midnight, to which most of us complied to. Most of the dorm kids that showed up all graduated around '02 or '03 so I was just a little bit very intimidated, mostly because I forgot the fact that we were all bound by the similar experiences of studying in Morrison while living in a dorm with the same dorm parents. It was a good evening to be a McGill Dormie.
Bye Hair Day
I have been notorious for the way I treat my hair. If you know the song "Grace Kelly" by Mika, well, in the chorus, he is singing about my hair circa 2013-2015. Then I stopped. I hated the way my hair felt dry and crinkly, I wanted my normal long hair back. I also remembered I've always wanted to donate my hair to a cancer foundation. It was just something I wanted to cross off my bucket list. So I've been growing my hair out ever since—it took way longer than I thought. Throughout my hair growth, two significant people in my life died from cancer. It felt like I had way more reason to donate now.
June 16th was the date. My friend also wanted to join in. We found Little Princess Trust, an organization that gives out free wigs to young girls who have lost their hair due to illnesses. Their guidelines said they love receiving longer hair because they're more popular. After some measuring I decided to get a buzz cut so that I could maximize the length of hair I could donate. Besides, I've been wanting to have crazy buzzed hair after a couple of years of freakishly long hair. Fickle me, I know.
My hair stylist washed my hair way thoroughly, dried it for what seemed like an hour, tied it up into sections, and snip, it was in a plastic bag. My buzz cut buddy and I couldn't stop rubbing our heads the following few days.
But my oh my, I did not know that a head of hair was keeping me warm all this time. I was constantly dealing with extremely cold overhead AC on buses and I eventually caught a really bad cough for three plus weeks. I now never leave my house without a hat of some sort.
My hair has become so short that I have been tracking my days with hair length. My best friend, Fanny keeps saying it's like watching a little infant grow every week. I told her to stop being so overly dramatic.
oh dear, this is getting real long
Instead of asking how someone's day was, Sharon would ask us three things: 1. what was the low point of your day? 2. high point? 3. what have you learned today? or what do you think Jesus is teaching you today?
So to boil down my April to June into a few pointers, it sucked that I got really sick for almost a month, but I loved getting to travel and do a lot lot lot of things. I'm learning that well-done goodbyes are possible. Currently, I'm learning to do just that—slowly closing up gaps responsibly, honestly, and kindly. God is also teaching me that I'm allowed to chose and do what I love (but more on that next update).
Thank you for catching up on my life, I promise the next post will be just as long.

The Best External Hard Drives and SSD of 2020
If you are wondering what is the best external hard drive or SSD available, we recommend you take a look at our guide with the best external hard drives and SSD on the market to help you make the most successful purchase decision
The idea of having a solid state device or SSD can be very attractive, but if you are looking for more capacity without spending too much, you may be more attracted to the idea of acquiring a classic hard drive.
The available capacities of drives with portable discs inside now extend to 4000 GB, more commonly known as 4 terabytes (TB).
Most portable USB drives are powered by the connected computer, so you can use them anywhere without connecting to the mains or using batteries.
Some even connect to your phone or tablet and allow you to expand storage that way or simply transfer files to free up space.
Before choosing the external hard drive or SSD, we recommend you consider features such as capacity, performance, protection, reliability, security and, of course, the price.
Capacity
Even in the smallest portable units you can at least enjoy 128 GB of extra storage, which is enough to host thousands of CDs in FLAC format without losses, or even more in MP3 or AAC format of worse quality.
Downloading your music collection from a computer to a portable unit can be a blessing since you will free up enough space that will come in handy if your laptop has somewhat limited storage.
You can also save backup copies of your computer files to the external hard drive to avoid losing something if it stops working.
Some portable units include software that helps automate this backup process, keeping the files you want synchronized whenever you connect the unit or according to the daily schedule you choose.
Performance
Now that USB 2.0 has been removed from all types of storage systems, we find USB 3 as the standard for connection, allowing these portable units to work as fast as the small disks inside allow it.

If you opt for older drives that still use USB 2.0, the transmission speed will be limited to 35 MB / s. This means that 100 GB of multimedia files would take almost an hour to transfer with a USB 2.0, and less than 20 minutes with a 3.0.
If you store or make backup copies of many small files, it is normal for general performance to crash, as hard drives have to suffocate with smaller files.
So while large files can be compressed at 100MB / s, smaller ones will probably travel at less than 1MB / s, or at a hundredth of that speed.
The fastest SSD drives reach 550 MB / s and this speed depends largely on the device to which it is connected.
Protection
If you have an idea of transporting the external hard drive from here to there, it is recommended that you look at a unit with a solid and resistant case that can protect the disk and everything it carries inside.
Look at the shock resistance ratings such as the MIL-STD-810F 516.5 (Transit Drop Test) of the United States Army. This means that the unit is able to withstand up to 26 falls on hard ground, once on each face, edge and corner, from a height of 1.22 meters.
Flash storage, better known as SSD, can survive a more brutal treatment, and some portable units are even waterproof. If you accidentally drop a portable SSD into the water, as long as the port covers are tightly closed, it will work well after it has dried completely.
Reliability
It’s hard to say which manufacturer makes the most reliable hard drives. Although there is a big difference between the technology used in traditional hard disk drives and SSD drives, both have a limited lifespan, and this is the reason why the warranties are relatively short, usually two or three years.
We recommend you
The important thing is that you have a well thought-out backup process and that you don’t depend on a single unit to store valuable files.
Ideally, you should have three copies: one on a PC, phone or tablet, another on an external hard drive or SSD, and another on a cloud storage service.
Security
The larger the unit, the greater the storage capacity and the greater the risk of losing it if it is lost or stolen.
There are two ways to ensure that data is illegible to other users. You can encode the content through hardware encryption. Or you can use a software application to encrypt part or all of the unit.
Price
For many users, the price will be the deciding factor. If you need an approximate value of what a gigabyte of storage costs, we could say that each gigabyte costs around € 0.50 approximately.
Adata SD600Q
$ 39.99 (240GB); $ 59.99 (480GB); $ 99.99 (960GB)
You may give up the modern USB-C standard for connectivity, but the Adata SD600Q is still a good device that will work for anyone looking for a portable SSD and not having many demands.
The SD600Q offers a good combination of design, affordable prices and a variety of more than decent capabilities (if you don’t need more than 1TB).
It is also fast enough to copy files without waiting for years and you can also make use of Adata’s free software if you wish, an option to take into account without a doubt.
Samsung Portable SSD T5
$ 129.99 (250GB), $ 189.99 (500GB), $ 379.99 (1TB), $ 749.99 (2TB)
The Samsung T5 SSD is not cheap, but it offers performance that will be difficult to improve for any other unit.
However, if your idea is to use it as a hard drive for a laptop, it will be largely useless, since the advantages of total speed can only be achieved if used in combination with an internal SSD.
In addition the elegance of the design of this device is impossible to ignore. Metallic, with curved edges and small. It will look wonderful next to your computer or any device you want to connect.
Samsung Portable SSD T3
If you are looking for a large capacity portable unit to back up your photos, videos, music and other valuable data, the Samsung T3 is an excellent choice.
However, keep in mind that a traditional hard drive is still much, much cheaper, so it will be a better option if the data and file transfer speed is not your top priority.

$46k Spent on Bitcoin Mining Hardware: The Final Reckoning
In the two previous articles of this series, Dario Di Pardo listed the highs and lows of having spent many thousands of dollars on pre-ordered bitcoin mining hardware and then having to endure delays, poor communication and broken promises, as some of the companies failed to provide the promised equipment in time. In this last part of the series (see one and two here), Di Pardo tells CoinDesk which companies finally came good on their promises and which left him wishing he’d just spent his bucks on bitcoin. Di Pardo told CoinDesk, if he had one learned one thing from the experience, it was: ¨No more pre-ordering for this guy.¨

Vendor: Black Arrow Product: Prospero X-3 (converted to bare chips) Price including shipping: $4,978 Order date: 18th November 2013 Anticipated shipping date: 24th February 2014 Actual shipment date (chips): 11th July Delay: 5 months Status: Converted to ASIC chips As somewhat anticipated, Black Arrow missed their revised shipment date of 8th May. According to the company, they have been experiencing issues concerning the miner’s backplane, which are causing almost two months of additional delay. Black Arrow recently announced the issues to be resolved and that both X-1 and X-3 miner orders would be dispatched by the end of July. Together with the company’s latest news update, the option to convert pre-ordered miners into bare ASIC chips was provided, implying that each X-3 order could be exchanged for 100 ASIC chips, whereas you would get six chips for an X-1 order. When a mining company starts offering a miner-for-chips exchange, it might be a good idea to go with the offer, or you could end up with nothing at all, as I learned from my experience with HashFast. With this in mind, together with the now huge delay in shipment and the fact they are not increasing compensation further to match competitors’ prices at shipment time (which they said they would do earlier), I decided to go for the chips. Obviously, one cannot mine with chips alone. Fortunately, Technobit, a Bulgarian company, would be capable of turning these chips into mining rigs, where each 400 GH/s rig would contain four ASIC chips. Because Minersource, a mining gear and co-location company as well as Black Arrow’s US-based reseller, organized a group buy for all customers who converted their order into chips, the board assembly at Technobit can now be purchased at a discount. Even more, they managed to provide us a deal where each board assembly can be alternatively paid for with four additional chips. So with some money on top for chip coolers, controllers and power supplies (controllers and power supplies not necessary when opting for co-location), I would get a 5 TH/s miner with a price tag that matches today’s stock prices, instead of the now overpriced 2 TH/s X-3 miner (excluding the 1 TH/s compensation Black Arrow would send after all current orders have been shipped). Technobit is currently in the process of assembling all miners for the group buy, which will take about two weeks to complete. Although none of the X-3 orders have been currently shipped, some X-1 customers are now reporting receiving their hardware.

Vendor: HashFast Product: Sierra (1.2 TH/s) Price including shipping: $6,696 Order date: 18th November 2013 ‘Guaranteed’ delivery date: 15th February 2014 Status: Bankruptcy announced 7th June (no product or refund received) Not surprisingly, HashFast entered bankruptcy under chapter 11 on 7th June. As a result and most unfortunately, when that ship went down, my money went down along with it. Because I initially wasn’t included in the list of creditors the company presented to the bankruptcy Trustee (no surprise there either), I filed my claim online through the court’s site. I can only hope at this point that as a result of the reorganization process, I will get at least some of my money back.

Vendor: Virtual Mining Corporation (VMC) Product: Fast-Hash One Platinum Edition (1 TH) Price including shipping: $6,479 Order date: 24th November 2013 Anticipated shipping date: January 2014 Status: Refunded 23th June In addition to the Wood Law Firm investigation, Virtual Mining Corporation and its parent company Active Mining Company are now under investigation by the Missouri Secretary of State because the CEO of both companies, Kenneth Slaughter, wasn’t following proper procedures when soliciting investors. Maybe as a result, shortly after this announcement the company’s website went offline and is now only displaying a refund form intended for former customers. After applying for my refund using this form, I almost immediately got the order amount transferred to the bitcoin address provided. Although glad I made it out if this adventure with only some minor remaining health issues, I feel sorry for the many customers still waiting for their money. If the company will manage to ever get back on its feet, is yet to be seen.

Vendor: Bitmine Product: CoinCraft Desk 1 TH/s (+ 0.4 TH/s compensation unit) Price including shipping: $5,758 Order date: 28th November 2013 Anticipated shipping date: February, week 1 Actual shipping date: 2nd April Delay: 7 weeks and 2 days Status: Miners performing well Bitmine has manufactured some sturdy mining hardware, with both the 1 TH/s Desk and the 0.4 TH/s compensation unit I received hashing continuously and flawlessly for over three months now. However, because of the delays in shipment of the CoinCraft Desk and CoinCraft Rig that resulted in many disappointed customers, the company is struggling to keep afloat. Due to the many refund requests which caused a shortage of funds, Bitmine is now postponing further refunds to customers till as far as October, much to the their frustration – a similar situation CoinTerra customers have been facing. To raise the necessary funds to survive, the company is now offering hosted mining plans and a revised, lower priced 1 TH/s CoinCraft Desk.
Vendor: KnCMiner Product: Neptune (converted to 3 TH/s Jupiter) Price including shipping: $10,175 Order date: 2014-01-07 Anticipated shipping date: Q2 2014 Actual shipping date: April 29th Delay: None Status: Miner repaired The repair process of the seven broken boards was fairly smooth and a few days after sending back to KnCMiner the broken ones, I received new boards – properly packed this time. The 28nm Jupiter miner I took in exchange for my Neptune order now hashes away steadily at about 3.1 TH/s while consuming around 3,800 watts at the wall, which averages out to about 1.22 W/GH/s. The new 20nm Neptune miner that has been shipping as of the end of June, hashes at around 3.3 TH/s while only consuming half the power per gigahash than its younger brother does. Despite the efficiency improvement and the fact that Neptune customers – at least those who took the time to read the offer’s small print – will additionally receive a compensation unit in August, I don’t think I made too big of a deal when converting my order after all, as I got the Jupiter rig two months earlier.
Vendor: Alpha Technology Product: Viper (Scrypt) Miner (250 MH/s) Price excluding shipping: £5,450 ($8,984) Order date: 2014-01-10 Anticipated shipping date: July 2014 Delay: None Alpha Technology eventually announced further increasing the performance of both available Scrypt miners, to match competitor products at shipment time. The 18 MH/s Viper will now be performing at a minimum of 50 MH/s, whereas the 90 MH/s miner will be hashing at a minimum of 250 MH/s. While approaching the July shipment deadline, the company went awfully quiet. Whether this will prove to be a positive thing, has yet to be discovered.

Vendor: CoinTerra Product: TerraMiner IV 2 TH/s (converted to 2x 1.6 TH/s) Price including shipping: $7,253 Order date: 2014-01-12 Anticipated shipping date: May 2014 Actual shipping date: 29th May Delay: ‘None’ Status: Converted to 2x 1.6 TH/s miners After still not getting any replies to my emails I sent to the CoinTerra support team asking for a (partial) refund, I took a hint from one CoinDesk commenter and decided to call them instead. The experience turned out to be pretty similar to participating in a telephone game where you’d have to be the 100th caller in order to win a prize, except that you’d probably win said prize sooner than someone from CoinTerra actually answering the phone. However, when you get a hold of somebody eventually, you realize the company has some great support representatives working there who really care about your case. But as time IS money in this business, the company really ought to expand its support staff in order to limit customer frustration. After a long period of mailing and calling back and forth I took the presented offer of getting an additional TerraMiner IV (1.6 TH/s) for an extra $1,000. Additionally, I opted for the cheaper (ground) shipment option instead, to reduce the extra costs. Getting two miners for a total of $7,000 excluding shipping costs wasn’t the best offer after all, as a few days after I accepted the deal, you could buy a single, now in stock TerraMiner for $3,000. My pre-order was finally sent out on 29th May, 7 weeks after they began shipping from stock. After about 10 days of operation one TerraMiner broke down and had to be sent back for repair. As a result, I lost about a month of (precious) mining time from this machine. To this day, the hashrate of both rigs combined remains unstable, varying between 2.7 and 3.0 TH/s.

Vendor: Bitmain Product: AntMiner S3 batch 1 Price including shipping: 0.75 BTC Order date: 2014-06-30 Anticipated shipping date: 20th July Actual shipping date: 20th July Delay: None Status: Hashing To discover what all the fuss was about, I decided to order the latest AntMiner from Bitmain. The S3, a product that has been selling like hotcakes since its release, reaches hashrates up to 441 GH/s while consuming merely 340 watts from the wall. No surprises, no delays, no tricks, but plain getting what you paid for, as you would expect from any other decent company. Bitmain even offered compensation in the form of a 10% coupon or seven percent refund, because actual specifications were slightly off initial specifications. Vitalik Buterin on Web 3.0, Decentralization & The Future of Blockchain
New Post has been published on https://hititem.kr/vitalik-buterin-on-web-3-0-decentralization-the-future-of-blockchain/
Vitalik Buterin on Web 3.0, Decentralization & The Future of Blockchain
Blockchain and allotted ledger applied sciences enable persons to have interaction in a peer-to-peer approach with out going by means of a depended on intermediary this innovation makes it possible for us as a society to prepare collective governance in enjoyable new approaches but it surely additionally poses challenges to our present governance frameworks I had a threat to sit down down today with Vitalik few Turin the inventor of aetherium to delve into this matter while you first began aetherium what what was once the philosophy with which you began it so you got down to build something you want to do anything that was once turing-entire seeing that you wanted to be ready to build this type of basic purpose blockchain yeah as a substitute of anything was confined just a distinct set of transactions like Bitcoin yes so for persons who do not know what web three is what three is that this a imaginative and prescient that you understand etherium plus a mixture of several different technologies can carry a couple of extra going to decentralize the web that places in actual fact more control within the arms of the user and this has a suite of technologies that entails aetherium as a sort of decentralized database whisperer as variety of decentralized messaging swarm as decentralized content material website hosting probably different technologies as well and these things could be and have developed in some approaches collectively but designs to be well complementary with each and every different and also you would see quite a lot of applications making use of some mixture of both what about the infrastructure atmosphere hardware necessities and matters um well one of the vital matters I sincerely love about blog chains is that they may be able to survive with no need so much precise hardware so like I in my view simply definitely fairly love the thought that clearly the item could just run on a number of thousand guys with our hire or laptops that is some of the things that fairly excited me about Bitcoin early on it would not require all of this like billion dollars of capital began up by means of people who are already right here before and that will be very sincerely inconceivable for a new crew to compare it’s just like just a few thousand folks on their laptops is all that you simply need with respect to hardware what about individuals who are usually not gonna have laptops but clever contraptions look one of the most things that we bought in deeply cared about from the above all for persons with laptops has an extraordinarily robust white coin science so this in actual fact implies that no you need to use this technology to have a customer that runs on a cell which has nearly the same stages of safety and trust amongst us as a common purchaser besides it so it needs to be extra effective and you can do that in in Sudan where you have got people with frequently Nazis and no longer Seussian now but mainly Sudan in three to 5 years sure like people do underestimate I consider identical to the sheer stage of cell penetration and look how swiftly it can be growing I think as soon as all of those places have internet entry and after they rise up to like basically once the excellent of 20 or $20 phones raises through one more couple of you a couple of years valued at of time it can without doubt be at that factor so that you believe you mainly think that etherium goes to be a international penetrating technological know-how and that we’re not gonna be limited through a bandwidth and hardware that is certainly what we hope I imply like if we were if lock chains were most effective usable by using the wealthy then the whole space would without doubt be much much less intriguing so how are you occupied with the incentive structures that you are constructing in principally with the upcoming transfer transition to Kasparov stake there’s a number of skepticism as i am definite that there is just gonna be this huge centralization around folks who have already got massive stakes yes being able to manage the network certainly this is not whatever that surprises you eventually that you are planning for it is obviously variety of another style of satan you already know arguments due to the fact that like what’s proof of labor you know you realize that 70 70 percentage of mining is finished out of China 70 percentage of mining is completed using mining hardware created through one manufacturer and run by way of truly like 5 or ten guys and like the article with hardware centralization is that it is the form of thing that’s in some approaches so much harder than just watch right so like in Casper for illustration there may be a mechanic the place if even supposing like a gaggle of persons which have greater than a third of the deposits coloured and and so they do an assault then truly the mechanism penalizes them and once the assault is detected it takes away their cash correct and so they do not have the money to do the 2d assault anymore however with the hardware you are not able to quite try this like that you may stick seem there isn’t a technique to sort of burn a section of hardware from inside a protocol from my kind of aspects of view of anyone who’s like particularly deep we suggestion about these protocols I believe that Brewers day sort of is healthier on a bunch of dimensions and just like the form of meta argument that I that I used to give an explanation for this as sincerely that seeing that proof of stake has to do with digital property which might be outlined throughout the process it approach that you’ve more what more freedom in in actual fact opting for rules which might be greatest and a good way to design methods that you realize like most commonly have a lot better incentives like better structured rewards and larger penalties from his conduct etc whereas a proof-of-work you are type of stuck with the legal guidelines of physics in some ways good there’s additionally this transition plan in place proper so you are combining proof-of-work and earlier exactly correct for a unique interval of time yeah and you are doing you’re doing analytics on that right happening because it evolves yeah definitely that you could you could pull again should you need to however that is an attractive technical topic so for CG viewers who do not quite recognize that much about the small print of how let’s speak about an additional internal governance facet which is how decisions about alterations to the protocol are made presently and in Bitcoin has executed via by way of mining pretty much correct given that the miners come to a decision which version to receive there are distinctive mechanisms and distinctive chains we noticed you recognize tezo’s launched previous this yr or ICO anyway with with the concept of building a different form of a governance procedure resolution-making process about protocol changes there are a number of other protocols engaged on exclusive items and a few individuals say good day every person who makes use of the process must get to have a democratic say in protocol alterations but truth is most people are not developers they comprehend the main points ample to be competent to really have an told opinion about stuff and it can be similar to in in our societies where now we have rational lack of understanding about quite a few things and men and women do not want to invest their time and making an attempt to determine what they want to vote on and it is kind of an interior governance scheme how do you feel about this difficulty who must be competent to come to a decision governance finally is like truly the set of kind of institutions and norms and agreements they usually honor requirements and what economists call displaying elements round in actual fact beneath what context must persons use these underlying instruments and in what ways in you know it’s the physical world you realize you can have like Parliament’s and constitutions and legal guidelines and so on and you might have additionally on high of that in general very informal norms about just a little bit like the approaches where special matters will have to be used yeah precisely and within the crypto world I think you already know you’ve gotten probably the most identical thing proper so you might have on the very bottom stage you understand the men and women’s capacity to write down program and miners capability to mine and specific chains and at the higher levels you might have developers discussing between themselves and builders implementing application builders like you coming up with mechanisms between themselves to agree on sincerely what the software changes will have to make you already know what blocks they must prompt that beneath what stipulations they will have to be agreed on and you can have users eventually at all times have the potential to sincerely simply rebel and refuse to take delivery of a specific update and then on prime of that you are going to also have norms and expectations about what kinds of updates should happen commonly so for instance in Bitcoin folks fairly cherish this one in 1 million restrict you already know there may be also the recommendations of decentralization there may be the proposal that this thing is supposed to be a currency like you’re now not imagined to arbitrarily take money away from folks so truly if I consumer find some thing distasteful and there’s a norm against that then the user knows that quite a few different individuals find distasteful as well they usually also be aware of that considering there exists this type of you realize steel stage social objects referred to as norm they’re you already know like other customers can even be extra taken with coordinating around basically not accepting the replace and so customers are gonna rebel not set up a program and you have things like aetherium classic definite and there are a lot of there are quite a few fairly famous and well-documented form of human rationality yes I imply all sorts of biases for those who just go to the wiki page for a cognitive bias sure 60 now including matters like we’ve converted the way in which that we do not forget information for the reason that the Google outcome then it we tend to not even bother to don’t forget things that we are able to effortlessly look up on Google nowadays and so yeah the way in which that we engage with technology is without a doubt changing our human thinking biases as good yes how do you intend for these and design those in this is one of the explanations why the economics of crypto economics is so exciting seeing that like some people say that you already know like oh cripton we like group 2 economics it’s no longer going to work when you consider that folks aren’t completely rational where humans are usually not only prompted by means of monetary explanations however what people don’t see I suppose is that although the monetary incentives aren’t the one factor that motivates men and women they’re an awfully enormous thing that motivates men and women yeah but there’s a difference between motivating individuals with monetary constraints and being competent to appreciate how they’re going to behave in response that incentive in view that typically folks would take thoroughly irrational process sure correct however almost speaking with strategies that it can be less difficult to foretell the inspiration that individuals are more likely to take things so that it will make them extra money than it is to predict that any particular bias is going to be very steady and amazing throughout decade throughout decades and throughout exclusive cultures and throughout like being it might be like the actor is being individuals versus companies versus robots so that’s style of typically one component and a further element that folks omit is that it’s now not just about incentivizing humans additionally it is about this notion that sincerely like in case you attempt to spoil caspere then you definately lose a lot of money right and so even supposing you are an irrational actor when you have some designated amount of money good you could handiest do so much there may be a mathematical proof of an higher sure on like the ratio between sincerely how much damage which you can reason of how much cash you can burn with the intention to achieve it and so like utilising common we fiscal measurement only a manner of measuring actors in phrases of the assets that they manipulate can be just in it and if an extra part of this there are a few matters that which were form of principal topics of dialog round you within the last year final month or so couple of months one in all them is set you understand how much involvement will have to founders and core devs have in going round and evangelizing blockchain versus certainly engaged on the protocol and doing matters like assembly with world leaders that you simply caught plenty of flack for to your commute to Russia why do you do these matters how do you make selections about how one can balance your time yeah you recognize I think it is most likely to start with we’re def to arrive out and speak to persons when you consider that initially love it helps humans is aware that this is whatever that is concrete that is got genuine persons behind it and that is good it can be received legs it is got capabilities we’re we’re here to help humanity and i feel you understand like that simply getting the working out of that and simply what the technology is and how it works is priceless and in addition what people have understood that while you go to talk to others yeah I mean I suppose like they have got been without doubt particularly pleasant quite often over the last few years and additionally it is predominant I believe for us to have an understanding of that right and basically to fully grasp you know what are the challenges that variety of essentially mainstream institutions currently face and what function can the technological know-how have in addressing them yeah and it is like one of the crucial conversations I’ve had in commonly more that is more with Bankston we have now got then with governments but no oh it can be a a point with each person around it like what are the privateness challenges why are they curious about consortium chains you already know what are their what’s their serious about scalability I feel that is undoubtedly I call particularly primary and find it irresistible a few of it absolutely does turn out to be informing matters that we focal point on one of the matters out of your viewpoint in interfacing with the law with governments with regulators which are obstacles to what you are trying to gain i would say the foremost form of regulatory factor that’s been a trouble in follow simply is like obstacle of cryptocurrency alternate except cryptocurrencies up to now there hasn’t relatively been so much issue to our looking at technology as a entire but like even as public weblog chains it can be been regardless of being usable for a gigantic number of matters argument cryptocurrencies still fundamentally relying in a cryptocurrency for transaction charges economic incentivization and quite a few different things it might be so much better if folks could purchase like $100 of cryptocurrency alternatively of zero and continuously a cryptocurrency however and but in lots of areas it still won’t like going from zero to a hundred is far tougher than going from 100 to five,000 correct there’s tremendous variations between how politically convenient it is to you know go after a technology the place 90% of it’s being used by terrorists versus science where you recognize going after anything that is just like the internet the place you realize i guess terrorists use it but also the folks who capture terrorists use it as good and your have you ever and you are variety of watching at distinctive materials the ecosystem around the world are there precise areas that you simply elements of the arena that look notably friendly or especially opposed to etherium as an concept or as a assignment or as a decentralized mannequin of organizing society in actual fact the object that you simply need the object like plenty of men and women and mostly even numerous libertarians even more than usual underappreciate is that only a few men and women hate freedom like in actual fact this annual very few individuals hate satisfaction to see only a few persons hate decentralization but there are a lot of humans that finds these find all these matters relatively priceless but not too useful and like they only give you a thousand exceptions for a thousand exclusive circumstances why Oh on this particular case I desires to have more control yeah there surely are locations which have more which have more of that than other areas so you already know like on the one hand you already know China has had booked the ICO ban and the ban on most crypto buying and selling however then again you recognize seem there may be a variety of other areas that you already know like Switzerland you already know like Singapore which have shown themselves to be very pleasant at the end of the day persons nobody hates freedom and nobody hates your privateness exactly but a lot of folks just like uncertainty yes wholly and and government is one form of walk in the park yes sort of the devil you know is better than the devil you do not definitely mainly with a centralized mechanism like that even simply to control visas throughput let on my own every conceivable shrewd contract that is not gonna work if every person’s running a replica of every software on their laptop yeah it can be at all times so you understand in the event you seem at like what simply the uncooked numbers of watch ins at present Bitcoin is currently processing some somewhat less than three transactions a second and if it goes almost 4 then it is already at top capacity in thought i am correct you understand over the last few days that’s been doing about 5 a 2d and if it goes above six then additionally it is at peak capability so then again you already know uber on natural twelve rides a second PayPal a few hundred Visa a number of thousand main stock exchanges tens of hundreds and hundreds and if you wish to go as much as IOT then you are speaking hundreds of thousands of 1000’s and if you are you want to go up to non-economic purposes so like for example there’s a platform known as Leroy which is sincerely just Twitter on the blockchain then you recognize you’re talking also about thousands of thousands very likely hundreds of thousands so you recognize there is a sort of hole from here to there and i feel right now there already is quite a lot of institutional hype within the area and just public hype so if you have a vladimir putin having you recognize figuring out what block chains in etherium are and paris hilton going out promoting i CEOs on twitter you recognize that is that’s height hype however the rationale I feel a large a part of the rationale why numerous this hasn’t materialized into motion yet is exactly on account that of a few of these technical limitations that make blockchains you know work ok for some excellent use instances however no longer quite work work well from each and every game use now our group is working very difficult on quite a lot of varieties of scalability solutions so you hear about buzzwords like plasma sharding state channels proper and you recognize all there is you recognize more than a few more recent ones like per oon so you realize for those who you realize you all of these are more than a few distinctive recommendations that truely we do attempt to style of smash through this primary barrier proper but try to either create block chains that still maintain a giant amount of safety without requiring every body to actually approach everything proper so when you feel about it i admire one severe is one guy approaches the whole lot which is cutting-edge had been all the other severe is every person methods the whole thing good what if you could get like square root of each person so like perhaps 500 persons processing each and every transaction you continue to get ample decentralization and security for the whole lot you want but immediately it is you understand with within it adequate enough that you understand it sincerely works for stuff in the true world and the the other sorts of procedures are tactics that attempt to use the blockchain you already know form of extra intelligently correct so it is clearly you seem probably the most analogy is that like Joseph boon from like a plasma uses quite a bit is the thought of the blockchain as a court procedure correct so block chains are satisfactory at securely resolving disputes and you recognize currently the wave well the naive looking at purposes work is they only put every single transaction on the blockchain however what you could do instead is you could have techniques the place people send messages that I name form of tickets so digitally signed messages that are off cane by way of default but we are the blockchain best gets utilized in these specific cases where there is a disagreement so if i’ve a hundred digital and 100 both and i ship the yr 100 less complicated then that might no longer ever go off chain but when I ship you the hundred ether and you then declare that I on no account despatched you the cash the or I declare that I never sang the money then that is a transaction that I could k we’ve a dispute and i would honestly push it down onto the blockchain and so we nonetheless have in our assurance of protection now all of these approaches have their own trade-offs and there may be this big quantity of incremental technical work involved in finding out what the right exchange-offs are however this begins looking like a path that is rather more promising and the way a ways alongside are we how long unless you feel that probably we will scale to as I said hundreds of thousands of concurrent users how many unless we will change visa what number of except we will exchange AWS I imply first matters like visa I feel certainly i’m going to say a couple of years so maybe one year once we seeing like prototypes which have you understand like a low security degree however are nonetheless you already know a secure ample for like a most important businesses to start simply doing proof of ideas on and a couple more years for all these solutions to quite hit the mainstream for I mean 8w license a trickier one considering that I suppose there are causes why blockchains Renault irrespective of how just right they are by no means going to absolutely substitute centralized cloud computing and it is most of the time even more one of the most huge ones good there’s generally two significant ones individually one massive one is that there are computations which are intensive and which can be hearts of paralyzed so decentralized clouds are relatively good at paralyzation considering the fact that you realize it’s like uber for your computing device you’ve received you may have bought thousands of desktops from you understand hundreds of thousands of countries thousands of providers all ranging all from individual laptops to you recognize you can that you could consider of you know even cloud computing company is clearly turning into like specialized mining farms inside of the approach but when you have computations that require like a fairly gigantic quantity of serial computation then that is tougher to decentralize within the 2nd quite difficult one is privateness proper look if in case you have computations on confidential information and then there may be clearly two techniques certainly one of them is to make sure the computations are simplest carried out on hardware that you believe and the second is the USB NC cryptography so you already know you might have heard of buzzwords like homomorphic encryption indistinguishability obfuscation to do the computations however or but then in the event you do this then those tends to carry very severe some computational efficiency exchange-offs so in actual fact for private or cereal functions are going to do them locally yeah like most likely I suppose like there is absolutely there is invariably going to be this large set of applications the place decentralized strategies like absolutely do not work that good and that is nice

Vitalik Buterin on Web 3.0, Decentralization & The Future of Blockchain
Blockchain and allotted ledger applied sciences enable persons to have interaction in a peer-to-peer approach with out going by means of a depended on intermediary this innovation makes it possible for us as a society to prepare collective governance in enjoyable new approaches but it surely additionally poses challenges to our present governance frameworks I had a threat to sit down down today with Vitalik few Turin the inventor of aetherium to delve into this matter while you first began aetherium what what was once the philosophy with which you began it so you got down to build something you want to do anything that was once turing-entire seeing that you wanted to be ready to build this type of basic purpose blockchain yeah as a substitute of anything was confined just a distinct set of transactions like Bitcoin yes so for persons who do not know what web three is what three is that this a imaginative and prescient that you understand etherium plus a mixture of several different technologies can carry a couple of extra going to decentralize the web that places in actual fact more control within the arms of the user and this has a suite of technologies that entails aetherium as a sort of decentralized database whisperer as variety of decentralized messaging swarm as decentralized content material website hosting probably different technologies as well and these things could be and have developed in some approaches collectively but designs to be well complementary with each and every different and also you would see quite a lot of applications making use of some mixture of both what about the infrastructure atmosphere hardware necessities and matters um well one of the vital matters I sincerely love about blog chains is that they may be able to survive with no need so much precise hardware so like I in my view simply definitely fairly love the thought that clearly the item could just run on a number of thousand guys with our hire or laptops that is some of the things that fairly excited me about Bitcoin early on it would not require all of this like billion dollars of capital began up by means of people who are already right here before and that will be very sincerely inconceivable for a new crew to compare it’s just like just a few thousand folks on their laptops is all that you simply need with respect to hardware what about individuals who are usually not gonna have laptops but clever contraptions look one of the most things that we bought in deeply cared about from the above all for persons with laptops has an extraordinarily robust white coin science so this in actual fact implies that no you need to use this technology to have a customer that runs on a cell which has nearly the same stages of safety and trust amongst us as a common purchaser besides it so it needs to be extra effective and you can do that in in Sudan where you have got people with frequently Nazis and no longer Seussian now but mainly Sudan in three to 5 years sure like people do underestimate I consider identical to the sheer stage of cell penetration and look how swiftly it can be growing I think as soon as all of those places have internet entry and after they rise up to like basically once the excellent of 20 or $20 phones raises through one more couple of you a couple of years valued at of time it can without doubt be at that factor so that you believe you mainly think that etherium goes to be a international penetrating technological know-how and that we’re not gonna be limited through a bandwidth and hardware that is certainly what we hope I imply like if we were if lock chains were most effective usable by using the wealthy then the whole space would without doubt be much much less intriguing so how are you occupied with the incentive structures that you are constructing in principally with the upcoming transfer transition to Kasparov stake there’s a number of skepticism as i am definite that there is just gonna be this huge centralization around folks who have already got massive stakes yes being able to manage the network certainly this is not whatever that surprises you eventually that you are planning for it is obviously variety of another style of satan you already know arguments due to the fact that like what’s proof of labor you know you realize that 70 70 percentage of mining is finished out of China 70 percentage of mining is completed using mining hardware created through one manufacturer and run by way of truly like 5 or ten guys and like the article with hardware centralization is that it is the form of thing that’s in some approaches so much harder than just watch right so like in Casper for illustration there may be a mechanic the place if even supposing like a gaggle of persons which have greater than a third of the deposits coloured and and so they do an assault then truly the mechanism penalizes them and once the assault is detected it takes away their cash correct and so they do not have the money to do the 2d assault anymore however with the hardware you are not able to quite try this like that you may stick seem there isn’t a technique to sort of burn a section of hardware from inside a protocol from my kind of aspects of view of anyone who’s like particularly deep we suggestion about these protocols I believe that Brewers day sort of is healthier on a bunch of dimensions and just like the form of meta argument that I that I used to give an explanation for this as sincerely that seeing that proof of stake has to do with digital property which might be outlined throughout the process it approach that you’ve more what more freedom in in actual fact opting for rules which might be greatest and a good way to design methods that you realize like most commonly have a lot better incentives like better structured rewards and larger penalties from his conduct etc whereas a proof-of-work you are type of stuck with the legal guidelines of physics in some ways good there’s additionally this transition plan in place proper so you are combining proof-of-work and earlier exactly correct for a unique interval of time yeah and you are doing you’re doing analytics on that right happening because it evolves yeah definitely that you could you could pull again should you need to however that is an attractive technical topic so for CG viewers who do not quite recognize that much about the small print of how let’s speak about an additional internal governance facet which is how decisions about alterations to the protocol are made presently and in Bitcoin has executed via by way of mining pretty much correct given that the miners come to a decision which version to receive there are distinctive mechanisms and distinctive chains we noticed you recognize tezo’s launched previous this yr or ICO anyway with with the concept of building a different form of a governance procedure resolution-making process about protocol changes there are a number of other protocols engaged on exclusive items and a few individuals say good day every person who makes use of the process must get to have a democratic say in protocol alterations but truth is most people are not developers they comprehend the main points ample to be competent to really have an told opinion about stuff and it can be similar to in in our societies where now we have rational lack of understanding about quite a few things and men and women do not want to invest their time and making an attempt to determine what they want to vote on and it is kind of an interior governance scheme how do you feel about this difficulty who must be competent to come to a decision governance finally is like truly the set of kind of institutions and norms and agreements they usually honor requirements and what economists call displaying elements round in actual fact beneath what context must persons use these underlying instruments and in what ways in you know it’s the physical world you realize you can have like Parliament’s and constitutions and legal guidelines and so on and you might have additionally on high of that in general very informal norms about just a little bit like the approaches where special matters will have to be used yeah precisely and within the crypto world I think you already know you’ve gotten probably the most identical thing proper so you might have on the very bottom stage you understand the men and women’s capacity to write down program and miners capability to mine and specific chains and at the higher levels you might have developers discussing between themselves and builders implementing application builders like you coming up with mechanisms between themselves to agree on sincerely what the software changes will have to make you refuse to take delivery of a specific update and then on prime of that you are going to also have norms and expectations about what kinds of updates should happen commonly so for instance in Bitcoin folks fairly cherish this one in 1 million restrict you already know there may be also the recommendations of decentralization there may be the proposal that this thing is supposed to be a currency like you’re now not imagined to arbitrarily take money away from folks so truly if I consumer find some thing distasteful and there’s a norm against that then the user knows that quite a few different individuals find distasteful as well they usually also be aware of that considering there exists this type of you realize steel stage social objects referred to as norm they’re you already know like other customers can even be extra taken with coordinating around basically not accepting the replace and so customers are gonna rebel not set up a program and you have things like aetherium classic definite and there are a lot of there are quite a few fairly famous and well-documented form of human rationality yes I imply all sorts of biases for those who just go to the wiki page for a cognitive is most of the time even more one of the most huge ones good there’s generally two significant ones individually one massive one is that there are computations which are intensive and which can be hearts of paralyzed so decentralized clouds are relatively good at paralyzation considering the fact that you realize it’s like uber for your computing device you’ve received you may have bought thousands of desktops from you understand hundreds of thousands of countries thousands of providers all ranging all from individual laptops to you recognize you can that you could consider of you know even cloud computing company is clearly turning into like specialized mining farms inside of the approach but when you have computations that require like a fairly gigantic quantity of serial computation then that is tougher to decentralize within the 2nd quite difficult one is privateness proper look if in case you have computations on confidential information and then there may be clearly two techniques certainly one of them is to make sure the computations are simplest carried out on hardware that you believe and the second is the USB NC cryptography so you already know you might have heard of buzzwords like homomorphic encryption indistinguishability obfuscation to do the computations however or but then in the event you do this then those tends to carry very severe some computational efficiency exchange-offs so in actual fact for private or cereal functions are going to do them locally yeah like most likely I suppose like there is absolutely there is invariably going to be this large set of applications the place decentralized strategies like absolutely do not work that good and that is nice

INTRODUCTION
This is the LG V30S ThinQ, which we’ll call V30S from now on for our (and your) sanity’s sake. Our specific model is actually the V30S+ ThinQ, as it has 256GB of storage.
The V30 was probably one of the most underestimated flagships of 2017, flying under the radar for most people and thus definitely not breaking any sales records.
The V30S ThinQ has the potential to make a more lasting impression by improving its predecessor’s strengths. And with the LG G7 finally around the corner, it better have what it takes.
DESIGN
The V30S is rather slippery, but surprisingly easy to hold and operate with one hand without a fear of it sliding out of your grip.
The front is refreshingly symmetrical, and it looks like it will be the last LG flagship to go for that look – notches are in, symmetry is out this year.
The top and bottom bezels are identical in size, but do note that the side bezels are not tiny. That said, you probably won’t mind given the handset’s respectable 81.2% screen-to-body ratio. Unlike the G6, the V30S doesn’t have a logo on the front, as there simply wasn’t enough room on the bottom bezel for it.
The metal frame seems sturdy and it’s managed to survive a drop on a tiled floor from around 70cm with just one dent – although the blue color chipped away from that particular spot in the process. The V30S is MIL-STD-810G compliant for resistance to extreme conditions, which should further enhance its durability.
DISPLAY
V30S employs LG’s first P-OLED panel with 18:9 aspect ratio and very small top and bottom bezels. Unfortunately, if the rumors about the G7 pan out, it will also be the last LG handset to don that setup, and we’re a tad conflicted about this. The fact that quality control seemed to be pretty hit and miss at the beginning of its production run didn’t help either, but while your experience may still differ, we can only discuss the display of our V30S unit. And, in a word, it’s fine. The OLED panel inside the V30 and the Google Pixel 2 XL caught a lot of flack for the fact that it can’t measure up to Samsung’s best in a few key areas, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad screen per se.
SOFTWARE
V30S unit runs Android 8.0 Oreo, you won’t find very many traces of Google’s design language inside, with the notification area being the single biggest exception. LG’s skin is still rather heavy, although we can’t say we’re bothered too much by it.
The launcher is devoid of an app drawer by default, but changing that is easily accomplished through Settings. Among its options are choices for icon shape and grid layout, and you can enable a search function when you swipe down on the home screen – yet this might get a tad redundant if you also use the Google search widget.
LG’s app store can safely be ignored for the most part and only used to update certain built-in apps (or for installation of additional LG apps, which is a choice you first get upon the initial setup).
CAMERA
We’re still wondering why LG is the only company to see the value in having a secondary wide-angle camera on the rear. Especially now when three-lens setups are becoming a thing, it would be quite baffling if no manufacturer chose a setup consisting of one normal-angle, one wide-angle, and one zoom lens. Hopefully LG itself will consider something like that for the V40.
We’re only sorry that LG still isn’t able to visualize the HDR effect live in the viewfinder like Samsung and Apple are doing with their latest phones. When you use the HDR mode on the V30S, the capable HDR algorithm will do a really nice job of restoring details in the highlights and shadows but you will only be able to appreciate this after the shot has been taken.
BATTERY LIFE
On paper, the V30S’ 3,300 mAh cell isn’t small by today’s standards, but it’s not record-breaking either. That said, battery life has been great. So much so, in fact, that with our normal use we haven’t actually managed to bring the handset to the point where the Battery Low alert shows up – at 15% left. Low mobile network signal level heavily impacts battery life, while using the phone primarily on mobile data will also eat into your numbers. However, we’d venture a guess and say that the V30S should last you through a day even if you’re more of a power user than we are.
